The Healing of Refuge
Ryan Tittle by Sumiton, AL, USA
“[God] gives power to the faint,
and strengthens the powerless.
Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted;
But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.” -Isaiah 40:29-31
This scripture passage describes the strength and scope of Yahweh’s understanding. God’s capacity to understand is as great as God’s capacity to heal us, to do miracles-and these miracles (big and small) are given to us when we are patient and obedient. This is a God who renews our strength. What do we give back to a God this good to us?
We have an obligation to give back to the Lord-in prayer, in inviting people to Christ, in our Disciples’ Generous Response. Think of all the things God has done for us, not small things either-the gift of life, a beautiful Earth, eyes, and a mind with which we can enjoy them.
Thank God for Community of Christ in which we worship and praise our Creator together. We should always remember God is our refuge and strength and will teach us to trust in God at all times.
We are not out in a storm with no shelter. We cannot and do not have to live in fear, and we certainly can’t do God’s work in fear. We have been asked to be courageous and visionary, to do the work ahead of us. The Lord will help us cast all our cares on Jesus Christ, to leave behind our individual troubles and worries, and to improve our spiritual lives. In this way, we keep on living the mission of Christ.
The still, small voice is already speaking. Are we listening?
“In God’s hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of every human being” (Job 12:10).
All That Lives
Sit quietly and sense God’s presence flowing through the trees and all creation. Offer a prayer of gratitude for your connection to all that lives. Ask for grace to discern and carry out one small act of justice or healing that creates greater wholeness for the plants, animals, trees, waters, air, and land that are part of the community of creation.
