Time for Change
By Cathy Loving of Independence, MO, USA

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. —Romans 15:13 NRSV

Change can bring thoughts of fear and confusion. It can also spark new possibilities. Each New Year I pause to consider what change I can make to better our world. I’m not talking about any outlandish change. Even the smallest changes can make a difference.

Pope Francis has inspired me with his humility and call to help the poor. His pleadings guide the transformation I wish to make this coming year to alter my giving habit. Each time I buy groceries, I will buy extra food or contribute cash to Harvesters. Perhaps you have a food bank nearby that could use your help.

It is a small change, but oceans spring from a single drop of rain.

You may never know what results come from your action,
but if you do nothing, there will be no result.
       —Mahatma Gandhi

Prayer for Peace

Generous God, help us make changes in our lives that make us more like Christ. May those changes be enduring transformations, not just short-lived resolutions. May they become part of our way of living, our life as a disciple, our way to share peace.

Spiritual Practice: Peace Action

God calls Community of Christ to ministries of peace, reconciliation, and healing of the spirit. PeacePathways is a church-sponsored website sharing peace and justice ministries, resources, and opportunities. Visit the website www.peace-pathways.org/ and discern one ministry that speaks to you or captures your attention. Offer a prayer of blessing on the peace ministry you select. Listen quietly to see if God is calling you to additional responses to this ministry or another ministry of peace, reconciliation, or healing. If you cannot visit the website, offer a prayer of blessing on all peace ministries.

Peace Covenant

Today, God, I will make a change in my life that may change the life of another.
