God’s Spirit Touches My Senses
Esther Steward of Norwalk, IA, USA

O Lord you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.  Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. -Psalm 139:1-4, 13-14a

God’s Spirit touches my senses, my heart, and my mind.

How? Sometimes I feel a gentle, peaceful sensation, or a warm, comforting feeling washes over my entire body. Sometimes I feel a new energy, strength, or outlook on life, or I gain a new insight. I often feel God’s Spirit while among God’s creations:

\xe2\x80\xa2 Driving through my neighborhood, I see all the beauty, creativity, and brilliant colors of the flowers, birds, trees, sky, and landscapes.
\xe2\x80\xa2 Shopping in the grocery market, I slowly breathe in the smells of delicious food aromas and sample tastes of mouth-watering new dishes!
\xe2\x80\xa2 Working in my home, I touch many different surfaces, textures, and fabrics.
\xe2\x80\xa2 While jogging, I hear the gentle bubbling of a stream and then the louder, more persistent splashing of a waterfall.

My heart and mind are open to receiving leadings from the Spirit throughout the day. In my daily life, I feel God’s Spirit all around me-outside, while shopping, while working in my home, and when exercising. God’s Spirit is always with me.

God’s Spirit touches my senses, my heart, and my mind.

Prayer Phrase

“Be vulnerable to divine grace” (Doctrine and Covenants Section 163:10b).

Spiritual Practice

This month, spend time each day noticing where divine grace is already pouring forth. Perhaps it is a simple awareness of creation’s systems and cycles that support our daily existence. The sun rises each day without being asked. There are underlying rhythms and relationships that hold the fabric of our lives together. Sometimes they fall into the background of our lives. We forget to see the natural generosity that spills over throughout our days-of the planet, the people we love, the Sacred Presence in all moments, the kindness of strangers we encounter, and the gifts we carry within. What is already being given in your life? What does it look like to be vulnerable to divine grace today?
