God as Air
By Brenda O’Dell of Kearney, MO, USA

Praise the Lord, all you nations! Extol him, all you peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!  —Psalm 117 NRSV

God as air
God as mist
God as shining star
God as daybreak
God as sunset
God, both near and far

God as breeze
God as windstorm
God as gentle sigh
God as thunder
God as birdsong
God as baby’s cry

God as stream
God as ocean
God as mighty wave
God as mercy
God as grace
Source of all we have

God as artist
God as parent
God who loves my soul
God as maker
God as healer
Touch me, make me whole.

God as fire
God as lightning
God as warming flame
God as leader
God as servant
God as wounded, lame

God as mourner
God as victim
God as kindness shown
God as searcher
God as shepherd
Bringing lost sheep home

God as dancer
God as music
God as symphony
God as lyric
of forgiveness
Let love sing through me.

Prayer for Peace

Composer of the Universe, thank you for Jesus, who teaches us to live in harmony. Thank you for the many ways we learn of your presence. May all our actions reflect our belief in the sacredness of your creation.

Spiritual Practice: Music for Meditation

Identify a form of music for meditation. If hearing music is not an option, choose a song you can sing or play on a musical instrument. Choose music that carries a soulful, spiritual, or healing quality for you. Sit quietly and soak in the melody and resonance. Allow healing waves of sound to pierce body, spirit, and emotions. What do you feel or see as you listen? Does the music have colors? What spiritual message comes? How does the music restore, nurture, heal, or move you to compassionate response?

Peace Covenant

Today, God, I will sing as I work. If I can’t sing, I will hum. If I can’t carry a tune, that’s okay. I know you will listen, anyway.
