Supporting Community
By Barrie Fox of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England

For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.’ —Matthew 18:20 NRSV

The Clay Cross Community of Christ congregation booked Dunfield House for a family and friends weekend. It was an uplifting experience. We enjoyed the gardens and the running streams, the wooded glades, and beautiful views. We shared swimming sessions, invigorating walks, lively and informative discussions, family worship, and most of all—we shared love.

It was good to see people enjoying time with friends and family in a pleasing setting and a supporting manner. The opportunity to share in that uplifting weekend blessed me. Those who are always ready to bring out the best in others bless the community.

These are the people who readily offer encouragement and support in the simplest ways. I have been more than grateful for such people and for what they have done to help and encourage me. I pray I will encourage others who have not felt this blessing in their lives.

Prayer for Peace

Ever-present Spirit, we know you are the tie that binds. Thank you for the blessing of community. Thank you for the peace of Christ that we may pass to one another.

Spiritual Practice: Honoring God’s Call in Others

Reflect on how you sense God’s calling reflected in the gifts and actions of others. Begin by prayerfully asking to recall particular moments when the gifts of others were a blessing to you. When has God revealed grace to you through the life of another? When have you felt resistant to the gifts offered by another? Reflect on how you came to honor that person’s call. Write in your journal or reflect on how you can help another person develop and share their gifts.

Peace Covenant

God, we will gather when we can, opening our circle and uplifting those who might feel unloved.
