Turnips or Trucks?
By Linda Holder of Lytle, TX, USA (Translation by Karen Price)

For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
The one who thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and has human approval. —Romans 14:17–18 NRSV

Mi Jardín
Ellos me preguntaron,
“Qué crecerás este año?”
Y miré
y pensé.
“Los niños pequeños” es mi respuesta,
con camiones y tractores ,
barcos y camiones de volteo,
piedras y tierra.

Llueva o haga sol
mi jardín está ocupado:
chicos con imaginación
y sonidos para que coincide.

No es algo que pueda comer
No hay malas hierbas para tirar
Ni siquiera las flores bonitas
Pero este jardín
crecerá grande y fuerte
y formar parte de algo maravilloso!

My Garden

They asked,
“What will you grow this year?”
And I looked and thought.
“Little boys” is my answer,
with trucks and tractors,
boats and dump trucks,
rocks and dirt.

Rain or shine
my garden is busy:
boys with imagination
and sounds to match.

Not something I can eat
No weeds to pull
Not even pretty flowers
But this garden
will grow big and strong
becoming part of something wonderful!

Prayer for Peace

Master Gardener, growing people is what you do best. Help us grow peace in our lives.

Spiritual Practice: Honoring the Worth of All Persons

Sense the intimate knowledge and love God has for you and everyone. Be aware of the sacred worth of each person. Weep with God over the soul-wounding forces and events that rob people of dignity and worth. How does God invite you to notice, protect, heal, and affirm the spiritual identity of all God’s beloved people today? Pray for God’s compassion.

Peace Covenant

Today, God, I will brush aside dirt and sand, and see the joy that children see.
