Open Windows

Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. -Philippians 4:8-9

One day many years ago while in the hospital and gazing out the window, I noticed the blue sky, sunshine, and green tree tops. I felt the need to praise God so I wrote the following in the Spirit of praise and prayer:

Dear Lord,

As we open windows to allow light and air to refresh our physical beings, we behold Thy handiwork and drink deeply of Thy physical blessings that surround us. May we remember also to open the windows of our souls and allow Thee to enlighten our minds, clear our vision, and grant unto us spiritual vitality.

Thou hast promised to open the windows of heaven and pour down blessings upon us if we but desire enough to seek Thy will concerning us.

So, just as we commune with our neighbors through open windows, let us do likewise with Thee, our Father, so we may know Thy desires for us. May Thy will be done in us for Christ’s sake and the uplifting of others.

Amen.

Spiritual Practice

Holy Attention

Spend a few moments paying attention, wherever you are. Notice your surroundings. What draws your focus? Look more closely at detail and color. Notice what pulls or prods within you. How is the God-in-all-things speaking to you through what you see and feel right here, right now?
