#2 Pencils Are a REALLY Big Deal
By Sherri Kirkpatrick of Lee’s Summit, MO, USA

…all shall give as they are able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you. —Deuteronomy 16:17 NRSV

Danica McLain, a two-time traveler to Zambia, a connector specialist, a talented artist, and a huge supporter of HealthEd Connect, began an online program to get donations for art supplies for the schools in Zambia. So far she’s had over $2,000 given for supplies! All of this for kids who think a #2 pencil is a REALLY big deal!

This week Danica wrote, “The first shipment of art supplies from the Art Room Aid project site came in yesterday! Imagine a mountain of art material to give you a visual for the success of the project so far. Keep in mind the supplies that are unseen—10 240-sheet packages of construction paper, two class packs of 630 crayons, 20 packs of modeling clay…who knows what else! I’m so excited!”

All of those traveling to Zambia for HealthEd Connect received a forewarning that extra corners in their suitcases will be stuffed with art supplies from now on. The young artists will be so happy because generous hearts made it possible.

Prayer for Peace

Generous God, help us break down barriers that hinder the world’s wealth from reaching all of your children. Help us devise pathways of justice and peace.

Spiritual Practice: Listening to Children

Sit in your quiet place and center your heart and mind on God’s presence. Spend several minutes asking God to bring to your awareness the names and images of children in your life. You may see their faces or hear their voices as you receive these impressions. Listen deeply to the unique gifts and needs of the children who come to mind. Offer a prayer of blessing for each child and the needs you sense. If you feel led, you also may want to write a note or card and give a message of affirmation and love to each child.

Peace Covenant

Today, God, I will think about my charitable giving and what more I can stuff into the corners of my offering.
