A Promise
Meggan Molgard of Salt Lake City, UT, USA

Therefore, continue to be strong in faith. To you who hear my voice and know my promises I will reveal myself and give my peace, even in the midst of your uncertainties. Indeed, I am longing to pour out greater blessings than you have ever known, if you, my people, will open yourselves though preparation, study, and prayer. -Doctrine and Covenants 158:11a-b

I can feel the storm approaching,
Not only in the wind rushing round
And the clouds floating heavy in the sky,
But in my bones,
In the deep resonance echoing in them with each step I take
Through this gray landscape.

I feel it in my soul,
A soul once sunny and clear and sure,
That has now shed the sunshine to be filled with questions,
With wanting to know the Sun is there
But also wanting to know of the rain and the clouds and the heavy gray.

And yet the gray and the weight and the echo,
The questions and clouds,
Do not seem a threat to me,
But a promise.

A promise that soon the rain will break free from the heavy sky,
Wetting the gray landscape around and within,
So that perhaps,
When the now lightened clouds begin to drift away,
Every surface can be made a mirror
Reflecting the rainbow now filling the sky.
