Easter Prayer
By Matthew Lowry (1954-2014, published posthumously)
When all hope seems far from reaching
When dark sadness fills our days
Let our joy be resurrected
In the promise Love conveys
On this day of new beginnings
May our hearts be filled with praise
Turn our eyes from tearful mourning
Give us vision of your grace
Let this prayer of Easter morning
Be a song with new refrain
Like a hope that churns within us
Urging us to sing again
May our voices ring with clarity
And our energy sustain
Melodies of simple beauty
Harmonies where God may reign
Resurrection forms within us
Bold, courageous, yearning hearts
Filled with passion and compassion
This is how our mission starts
Mission calls us into action
Birthing anew a faith that charts
Humble journeys filled with wonder
God’s surprise that faith imparts.
Prayer Phrase
Spirit, now live in me.
Spiritual Practice
Breathe deeply and enter a few minutes of silence. Be attentive to where you sense new life emerging in you. Search your memories of the previous day. When did you notice the sacredness of life in surprising places or forms in the world around you?
