We Will Be Seeds
By Katie Harmon-McLaughlin of Walnut Creek, CA, USA

Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous. Praise befits the upright.
Praise the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings.
Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. -Psalm 33:1-5 NRSV

We will cling to life, the only form we’ve ever known.
We will be unmoored, untethered, unattached.
We will fall from the security of the branch that was home.
We will discover gravity’s power as we are pulled to the ground.

Our edges will crack, folding over on impact.
We will be suddenly unprotected from the elements.
We will be blown in the breeze or crunched underfoot.
We will dry up in the sun, wither, be tough to touch.

We will break open
And discover we are seeds
And we will surrender.

The ground will welcome us in
As we begin to become what birthed us.
We will be resurrection.

We will be seeds.
We will join in re-creation
Of what we always were
And will become
Again.

Prayer Phrase

Spirit, now live in me.
