A Personal Psalm (Part 2)
Nina Warriner of Bath, NY, USA

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. -Psalm 16:2, 7-8

God is “at my right hand” with unconditional love and faithfulness. Each of us exists as a precious expression of God’s creative love.  It is as if God is saying to each of us:

“Dear Child,

“You are a wonderfully and beautifully created child in which my Spirit dwells. You won’t always believe that.  I understand. But know that it’s difficult to convince others of that which you can’t always believe. You will have to work regularly on that. However, I will give you frequent reminders throughout your life to help keep you on track.

“Remember I said that I will continue creating you throughout your life. If you let Me, I will recreate you-as I desire to do with all of My children. My greatest longing is that one day all will live in the fullness I intended-united in the beautiful diversity I fashioned humanity to be; fully alive and whole in creation. You, my child, are one precious piece of that creation. And with My guidance, you can be an instrument to help bring healing to some of the treasured pieces of my creation that have become broken. Your love, compassion, and acceptance will be the compass by which I will guide you.

“You will ask me, ‘What can I do, God?’ My answer will be, ‘Just be you. Be the You I am forming you to be each day. By doing so, you will help to create the world the way I designed it to be.’

“I love you, child-more than you will ever be able to know!

“Love,
God, Creator, Loving One, Divine Presence…
(and all the many names you will know me by throughout your life)”

Prayer Phrase

“Be vulnerable to divine grace” (Doctrine and Covenants Section 163:10b).

Spiritual Practice

This month, spend time each day noticing where divine grace is already pouring forth. Perhaps it is a simple awareness of creation’s systems and cycles that support our daily existence. The sun rises each day without being asked. There are underlying rhythms and relationships that hold the fabric of our lives together. Sometimes they fall into the background of our lives. We forget to see the natural generosity that spills over throughout our days-of the planet, the people we love, the Sacred Presence in all moments, the kindness of strangers we encounter, and the gifts we carry within. What is already being given in your life? What does it look like to be vulnerable to divine grace today?
